THE CREATOR

Rod Campbell

Learning Life through Sport is a program designed to challenge social norms and inspire young people and their communities to bring a new standard of behaviour and respect to sport and life.

Learning Life through Sport creator Rod Campbell spent over 30 years as a firefighter in the SA Metro Fire Service.  During his career he coordinated RAP (Road Awareness Program) for 10 years, ran a program called Enhancing our Culture for firefighters and is the current coach of ACES (Australian Combined Emergency Services) Australian Rules football team.  ACES is made up of the best Police, Fire and Ambulance footballers in Australia and plays an annual game against the ADF (Australian Defence Force) All Stars at Adelaide Oval as a Curtain Raiser to a Port Adelaide AFL game.  Rod had the honour of an Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) bestowed on him in 2015.

Rod's sporting background is in Australian Rules football where he was a self- confessed "very average" player at State League level in the SANFL, WAFL and VFA football.  Rod's passion for football has seen him in varying coaching roles over the last 30 years including country, amateur and SANFL assistant coaching roles as well as junior coaching and currently coaches junior footy at Morphy Park Roos in South Australia.

Rod also worked as a Forward Scout for North Melbourne and Carlton and loves footy as it's in his blood.  Over the past 6 years Rod and his family have been a host family for young Port Adelaide players in the AFL.

Rod's father Graham Campbell (recently deceased) was a champion Fitzroy player in the VFL and one of only 4 coaches ever to coach in the then VFL, SANFL and WAFL.
