We are super excited to be launching Learning Life Through Sport New Zealand with our inaugural event on 3rd September 2025 in Bay of Plenty.

After being abused and booed all game, Collingwood premiership player Brayden Maynard displayed great sportsmanship

In 2022, after Collingwood lost a heart-stopping Preliminary Final to Sydney by just one point, coach Craig McRae gathered his devastated players. As they sat slumped on the MCG turf, he reminded them:

“Only losers sit on the ground — and you are not losers, get up.”

That message stuck.

Fast forward to the 2023 AFL Grand Final. Collingwood triumphed over Brisbane by five points. In the chaos of victory, defender Brayden Maynard didn’t just celebrate. He lifted beaten Brisbane players off the ground, echoing McRae’s lesson — respecting the opposition while celebrating success.

This wasn’t a one-off. In Round 24 of the 2025 season, after another hard-fought 6-point win, Maynard this time helped Melbourne players up off the ground.

Quote of the Month

“Trust is the hardest thing to gain, it’s the easiest to lose and it’s the most important to hang onto.”

Todd Duncan

Wishing everyone well in finals!

September ushers in Finals in a host of winter sports. In sport, as in life winning builds confidence, whilst losing builds character - both are opportunities to learn life through sport. Approach your games with sportsmanship, respect and try your hardest.

Adelaide Plains Netball Association sends a timely reminder to their teams of the spirit in which they should compete.
